How to Know if Your Vehicle Has ADAS

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are safety features designed to prevent accidents. If your vehicle has any of the following features, it almost certainly has a forward-facing camera mounted to the windshield behind the rearview mirror:

• Lane Departure Warning / Lane Keep Assist
• Forward Collision Warning
• Automatic Emergency Braking
• Adaptive Cruise Control
• Pedestrian Detection

When the windshield is replaced, this camera must be removed and reinstalled. Even a tiny shift in the mounting angle means the camera is looking at the wrong part of the road. Calibration is mandatory to ensure these systems function correctly and safely.

Ford F-150 & Super Duty

Ford's Co-Pilot360 system relies heavily on the windshield camera. Most F-150s from 2015 onward, and nearly all from 2018 onward, require calibration. Ford typically requires Dynamic Calibration, meaning the vehicle must be driven at specific speeds on well-marked roads to recalibrate the system.

Toyota (RAV4, Camry, Tacoma)

Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) is standard on almost all Toyota models built after 2018. Toyotas generally require Static Calibration, which involves setting up highly precise physical targets in a controlled shop environment.

Chevy & GMC

Chevy Safety Assist (standard on newer Equinox, Silverado, Tahoe, etc.) requires calibration. Like Ford, GM vehicles often utilize Dynamic Calibration.

Honda

Honda Sensing has been widely available since 2015 and is standard on most newer models (Civic, Accord, CR-V). Honda requires strict Static Calibration using specialized aiming targets.

Nissan, Subaru, and Hyundai

Subaru's EyeSight system is unique because it uses two cameras (stereo vision). It is highly sensitive and requires precise Static Calibration. Nissan's Safety Shield 360 and Hyundai's SmartSense also require calibration, usually static, depending on the exact year and model.
